The Brownie Promise

When you've been to Brownies a few weeks you'll know how much fun it is. You'll have tried new activities, played games, had fun outside plus tons of other fab things. You'll also have made friends with the other Brownies in your Six.

Making a Promise

Now it's time to get ready to make your Brownie Guide Promise. It's the really special bit about being a Brownie. You should always try to keep it. First there are three things you need to do.

The Brownie Guide Law

A Brownie Guide thinks of others before herself and does a Good Turn every day.

The Brownie Guide Motto

A motto is a saying to live by. Your Brownie motto is:

Lend a Hand

Some Brownies call it LAH for short. Try to remember it all the time - and carry it out!

The Promise

I promise that I will do my best:
To love my God,
To serve the Queen and my country,
To help other people
and
To keep the Brownie Guide Law.

It's a really special event making your Promise. You make your Promise to your Guider. All the other Brownies in your Pack are there too. As you say the words, you make the Brownie Guide sign.

Brownie Guide sign

The Brownie on the right is showing you how to make the Brownie Guide sign. Remember to use your right hand.

The Guide sign shows you're part of the Guide family. Lots of other people make this sign, like Guides, Ranger Guides and your Guiders. The three fingers shows you've made a Promise with three parts.

Promise Badge

After you make your Promise your Guider gives you a Promise badge and a certificate. You can pin your badge onto your badge sash, or onto your Brownie top. Each bit of the badge means something special. The three leaves stand for the three parts of the Promise and the star is for the Law. The yellow shows you're a Brownie Guide! Other members of the Guide family in the UK wear a badge like this but it could be another colour.

Welcome!

Then the Pack gives you their special Pack salute to welcome you as a new Brownie. This date is now your Brownie birthday.
