He was the son of William and Ann Houghton and husband of Amelia Taylor of 63, Clayton Street Skelmersdale.

wpe3.jpg (80436 bytes)John and Amelia were married on 21st July 1917 and had one child, who was named after her Mum.

John was killed on 1st. October 1918 at the age of 20. At the time the Germans were in full retreat with only six weeks to go before the armistice was signed.

He is commemorated on panel 3 of the Vis-en-Artois memoral, France. This can be found on the D939, eight Km. South East of Arras.
